Welcome

Cheshire Lacrosse for girls is thriving. There are three age group categories: U18, U15 and U13. Every season we are becoming more competitive in the counties’ tournaments, and more and more girls are trialling each year.

WHICH PLAYERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CHESHIRE!

Cheshire draws its players from the following schools:

Birkenhead school

Queens school

and from the following clubs:

  •        Stockport
  •        Mellor
  •        Norbury
  •        Poynton
  •        Cheadle

To meet the selection criteria, one of the statements below must apply:

  1. birth within the county geographical boundary;
  2. residence within the geographical county boundary for a period of at least six months
  3. registration to a club or student at a school/college registered to Cheshire.

AGE CATEGORIES

You must be under the age group by 1st September that year.  For example, U13 would need to be Under 13 by 01.09.19.

recent ELA rules mean that girls can play up an age group, but are not allowed to play up 2 age groups.  For example, a U13 player cannot play U18.

VENUES

We try to hold trials on the Astro, to reduce the chance of the weather causing a cancellation.  Venues vary depending on availability however we will update the website and the Facebook page (Cheshire Lacrosse) with venues, and any changes as and when we know them.

We are always looking for venues, particularly astro venues (ideally with lacrosse pitch markings), so please let us know if you know of any. We are also keen to hear of grass pitches not used in the summer months (most lacrosse clubs are also cricket clubs).

During the season, any problems with venues, or changes to venues, will always be put on the website and Facebook page.

CANCELLATION

We have had to cancel trials and training sessions in the past due to bad weather. We try to give at least 24hours notice if we can’t find an alternative astro venue.  This will be communicated by a notice on the website and Facebook page.

REGISTRATION

All players MUST be registered with the English Lacrosse Association (ELA) at the start of the season.  Players are ineligible to compete without this.  It provides insurance for the players. You can register via the ELA website (www.englishlacrosse.co.uk) (in the top right-hand corner is the option to register).

Your registration number is needed on the form: IT IS A 7 DIGIT NUMBER (not 4). If you have difficulties retrieving yours, please contact Kerrie k.lawler@englishlacrosse.co.uk directly.

COACHES

Cheshire Lacrosse is committed to training and retaining their  own coaches.  If you wish to get umpiring or coaching qualifications, and / or wish to be part of our team get in touch.

Please enquire to lauracalla@gmail.com if you wish to know more about this.

SELECTION

Cheshire lacrosse aims to be as neutral as possible. Lacrosse is a small game and invariably our volunteers are there because their daughter plays.  At Cheshire we have a policy that selectors cannot select for the age group of their daughter.   We try to have a broad coaching team from various clubs, to be as independent as possible.

We aim to ask for feedback regarding all players from their club/coaches and/or school teachers prior to the trials, so that we have an idea of what players are capable of.

We are always looking for volunteers.  If any coach/mentor from these clubs would like to help select, please get in touch.

After selection, if players wish to receive feedback, we will gladly provide this.

From the start of the season 2019/2020 it will also be Cheshire’s policy not to finalise the selection of the team on the day.  We will aim to email all attendees within 48 hours of trials. We believe this allows the coaching team longer to consider the girls’ performance. We also feel it is a more sympathetic way to make selections.
